Karim hat einen Bachelor-Abschluss in Computer Engineering und einen Master-Abschluss in Data and Knowledge Engineering. Derzeit arbeitet er als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter in der Arbeitsgruppe Datenbanken und Software Engineering an der Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg und ist Mitglied des SMASH-Projekts, das Teil des DFG-Schwerpunktprogramms 2377 ist. Ziel des Projekts ist die Entwicklung einer gemeinsamen Speicher-Engine zur Verwaltung heterogener Speicherlandschaften sowie die Bereitstellung einer prototypischen Softwarebibliothek, die in Hochleistungs-Computing-Workflows und Datenbanksysteme integriert werden kann.
